The former fishing village has developed into a popular holiday resort and seaside resort. Laboe is an ancient place and was mentioned for the first time in 1240. The name Laboe derives from the Slavic "Lubodne", which means "Schwanenort". And even today, the Swan is Labo's beast. The long, fine sandy beach falls very flat to the fjord, so it is especially recommended for families with small children. Directly on the beach promenade is the adventure pool. With the Kiel Fjord, one of the most frequented waterways in the world, in front of the doorstep, the "Strandleben" offers a special attraction also for "Sehleute", which can observe the ships passing by extensively. The panorama of Laboe is surmounted by the world-famous 85 m high naval monument.
