Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: Well located for where I needed to be. Bed a decent size for one person and spacious bathroom with decent shower. Kitchen has cooking facilities. Manager provided a fan to help with the heat. The place was clean. Good lighting and functional WiFi.

Negative: No contact from manager until the day of the booking. I had tried to contact manager and booking.com several times asking for information about how to get into the property, as I didn’t want to show up and be unable to get in, but was ignored until the last minute. Manager confirmed with booking.com the day before that the booking was active so they wouldn’t cancel the booking for failure to respond after I complained, but didn’t see fit to reply to me about property access as the booking wasn’t at risk for him at that point. The property has two digital locks, one on the main door and one on the flat itself (the upper flat). Manager sent me the wrong code for both so I had to call him up and get the right codes. He was annoyed when I couldn’t get in right away (sent a message saying “finally”). I would have benefitted from more instructions and warning about how to operate the locks, as it was not straightforward. The lock on the upper flat is difficult to operate because the door is incredibly stiff and hard to open and shut. Shutting it is especially difficult as there is no door handle and so nothing to hold onto to swing it shut with sufficient force to engage the lock. The flat is situated over a vape shop. The staircase was covered in rubbish. Since both flats are holiday lets (there was a French couple below me), maybe even owned by the same people, there is no excuse for the stairs to be in that state. Despite the provision of the fan, the room was 33 degrees and so it was hard to sleep. The mattress had no support and felt very cheap. The apartment was quite tired, with water damage and some marks requiring serious maintenance, not routine cleaning. It felt like the apartment was put together on a budget, eg toilet seat smaller than toilet and so hard to use, all cupboard and room doors not on correctly (hence the issue with getting in and out). The TV had no channels.
