Summary: A wonderful place to stay. Tasteful decor and plenty of space. We were also really pleased with the large roof terrace overlooking the mountains and views to the coast. At night we could sit there and look at the stars and listen to to the goat bells.
We were able to explore much of the less tourist places on west coast and inland. A good ordinance survey map was useful which we brought from home plus 'Rough Guide'.
We weren't particularly into walking although the area has several trails nearby. Spent a great afternoon in Botanical Gardens which hit the spot.

Summary: We stayed in this hotel to be away from the crowds and noise of the waterfront, but were still a quick 30 minutes away by car. There are excellent local tavernas, and lots of places to walk around the mountains from this spot. The rooms were very clean and the hosts were very nice. Easy to do day trips to the beaches from here. Note that there is a fairly steep drive up the hillside to get here, but well worth it.

Summary: We had a wonderful time and stay with Niko in Zourva, the hotel was beautifully furnished, modern facilities, very comfy, yet wonderfully rustic. There was a huge bowl of fresh oranges from the grove in our room, honey from beehives next to the property, and white mountain tea, malotira picked from the mountains by the owner of Emilie's the only Taverna in Zourva. The people, views, and food were magnificent. The people were so friendly, the food so fresh and tasty, and the mountains are just awesome. We climbed the local trails to the top of one of the overlooking cliffs, near the top of the mountain and the views of the valley and surrounding mountains was like something in a dream.

Summary: Outstanding. The apartments are located in an authentic Greek mountain village and have been finished to a luxurious standard. The views towards Chania and the White Mountains are amazing. The immediate area offers opportunities for walking, bird watching and mountain biking. There is an excellent taverna in the village and several more in nearby villages. A car is essential if you want to take advantage of this central location to to explore Western Crete. The service is excellent.
