Amalthia Cottage is a romantic rental just for two. Though small by US standards, it’s totally charming, with a cute mezzanine bedroom, a pretty garden and of course a private swimming pool for those long Mediterranean summer days. This is also a great spot for anyone who likes to explore; a stroll up to the ancient village of Paleochora, one-time capital of this tiny island, is a must for the fabulous views and fragments of ancient frescoes still visible in the ruins of the church. Just a 5-minute drive from Vathy town and its delightful waterfront, Amalthia Cottage sits in a timeless Mediterranean landscape above Dexa Beach, notable not only for its Blue Flag status but, according to legend, for welcoming Odysseus when he returned from The Trojan War. For a cold beer on a hot day, you’ll find a simple beach bar a short stroll along the shoreline; everything else you may need is available in Vathy, with its excellent selection of shops, bars and tavernas. Perfectly private and separate from neighboring Arethusa Cottage, the two properties also work well for two couples traveling together. Guided walks can also be arranged, along with boat rentals, kayaking and scuba diving, on request. Please take care driving on these roads and remember to drive on the right! 1. Drive out of the port of Piso Aetos around two sharp bends and follow the road until you come to a junction. 2. At the junction turn right, PLEASE TAKE CARE HERE, as a road from the left merges at this point. 3. Follow the road with the sea on your left, you will pass the Bay of Dexa. 4. You will now be climbing up hill. Just before the top of the hill you will see a turning on your right. There are signs for other villas and apartments. Turn into this road. (If you come to the petrol station you have gone too far. Turn around and take the first turning on your left.) 5. Drive along this road uphill passing some properties. AMALTHIA and ARETHUSA are on your right behind an obvious large dark blue wrought iron gate with a sign on the gate reading ‘DENDRA’. 6. Look out for a cream-coloured switch, like a light switch, hidden just behind the wall on the right of the gate. Press and the gate will open. Please close gate automatically after you have entered the property. 7. Continue down the drive. The first villa on your right is ARETHUSA and the second on the right is AMALTHIA. The house at the end of the drive is the owners. Each villa has its own parking space. WELCOME
