Villa Koukounaria is a unique, spacious, Ionian-island stone village house, beautifully preserved and still owned by the descendants of the family who originally built it in 1908.
Renovated in 2017 by two talented architects, it has been tastefully and sympathetically transformed into a modern, elegant, well-designed home for them and their guests whilst, maintaining its original character and charm; a successful combination of history and contemporary architecture!
A lap-pool 13mx3m has also been discretely added under a huge Mediterranean pine tree (known as “Koukounaria” in Greek, from where the villa’s name derives).
At 180 m2 the house is generously proportioned to sleep 4-5 people. The top floor is an open-space loft-style suite containing the master bedroom with a king-size bed, living room, and bathroom, providing an intimate space for a couple to enjoy the views - which include a frontal sea view facing magical sunsets.
The ground floor is also bathed in sunlight and includes a second living room with a wood stove for the evenings during the cooler months, a dining room, a large fully-equipped kitchen and a bedroom with a double bed and a single bed, a bathroom.
The house is set in 1800 m2 of traditional terraced gardens offering stunning views, where mature trees and large, centuries old olive trees provide cool, shady retreats from the sun.
The paired-back but cool, tasteful décor blends carefully selected antiques with original design pieces. This is an extraordinary house that owes much of its charm to its aura of a bygone age. It is our family’s vacation home which has been passed from generation to generation with care and respect, and has now been adapted to provide a comfortable and tranquil retreat to for guests with an accent on heritage, beauty, comfort, and fine architecture.
The beautiful, buzzing, cosmopolitan fishing village of Fiskardo is only 6km away – a mere 10 minute drive down quiet country roads. Wander around the harbour front, browse the boutiques, sip a cool glass whilst watching people pass and yachts glide in, and dine in a variety of restaurants and tavernas. There is also the whole of the rest of the island to explore from all its varied facets! Beautiful beaches galore, archeological finds, tempting tavernas, vanishing vistas…
