This is a place where nature rules, a place of peace and calm where the views, chirping birds and cicadas do the talking. It is quiet and idyllic - ideal for anyone seeking a total getaway. Guests can also enjoy some of the most famous places of the Messenia.
THE SPACE
The farm is a family-run property and is divided into 3 apartments (one of which is my home) each with independent entrance and private terrace. There is a private pool/spa out side of your doorstep (open 1st May to 30 September).
The cozy and full of character apartment is brand new combining modern and traditional materials. It has its own independent entrance and is situated on the ground floor of the stone tower. It can host up to 10 people. There is a well equipped kitchen / sitting areas, 4 comfortable bedrooms (with a 2 queen, a double, 2 sofa, a crib and 2 twin beds), 2 flat smart-TVs, free Wi-Fi, BBQ, 2 full cozy bathrooms with showers and hot water all the time, A/C and a wonderful view from all the windows and two patios at the garden and the pool area.
The ‘Stone Tower’ Farmhouse is placed on top of a hill with an amazing view of the Messenian Gulf, the city of Kalamata and the Taygetos Mountains. The farmhouse is built of local marble-stone and is surrounded by an olive grove and Mediterranean garden. The garden has almost any tree available for this climate zone plus flowers, organic vegetables, many fig trees and grapes.
All the necessary amenities (ATM, pharmacy, bakery, farmers market, gas-station, mini-market, cafes, tavernas, etc) can be found at the center of the village (200 meters from the Stone Tower). A small river and some beautiful nature trails surround the farmhouse for nice excursions and light trekking activities. The cities of Kalamata, Pylos, Petalidi, Kyparissia and Ancient Messini are very close, and can be reached very quickly (30 minutes drive through scenic roads), as well as all the other attractions of Messenia. The airport is 20 minutes away and Athens is only 2 hours by car.
The pictures don’t accurately convey the beautiful views and surroundings but you will see hills and mountains for hundreds of kilometers/miles and with 360 view. All the guests tell us that the place is more beautiful than what they imagined seeing the pictures.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD
This is rural Messenia away from the tourist hubs - although within easy reach of them all. Our farmhouse and the surrounding hill-top villages offer fantastic views, cobbled streets and alley ways, beautiful old churches, a taste of local life and good restaurants.
The nearest neighbor is 100m far from us. We are the last residence of Aristomenis, a typical Greek village. There‘re many small villages within a 5 kilometers range, with great taverns, natural springs, olive press factories, wineries, small churches, archaeological sites and other interesting things to see and explore.
GETTING AROUND
Kalamata is 35 km away. Plenty of other smaller and lesser known cultural, artistic, gastronomic and natural gems are all within easy reach.
The closest sea beach (‘Velika’) is 15 km away. Messenia has more than 50 easy accessible/blue flag- beaches but you can find several other attractions and activities in the region.
After a 25 km you’ll find Ancient Messini, a vast ancient city (as extensive as those of Olympia and Epidavros). Picturesquely situated on a hillside below the village of Mavrommati and still undergoing excavation, the site comprises a museum, a large theatre, an agora, a vast Sanctuary of Asclepius and the most intact and impressive of all ancient Greek stadiums.
If you use our Stone Tower as a base, you could spend several days in the area and always find wonderful things to see and to do. Waterfalls, hiking, biking, cooking lessons, wine testing, agro-tourism, museums (Kalamata has a great museum), daily cruises/fishing (June - September with our family boat), and day trips to: Pylos, Methoni, Koroni, Petalidi, Kalamata, Kardamilli, Taygetos, etc.
Aristomenis village is in the middle of Messenia region also, so each city is very close, like Kalamata, Sparta, Megalopoli, Tripoli, Kyparissia, Pylos. We have a bus stop just out of our Farm, but bus runs are few. Buses start from the closer, important bus-station in Kalamata. If you are a good walker there are several attractions in walking distance, there are many more if you have a bike or a car.
