Since the photos were taken the shower curtain in the shower room has been replaced with a glass screen, the pergola over the outside dining area and barbeque has been moved to outside the downstairs bedroom. A pergola shaded summer kitchen, with a dining table and chairs, has been built on the side of the pool terrace which shows the barbeque area in the current photos. The grounds have been further landscaped.
Situated off a private, gated rural lane with access to only 3 villas, surrounded by a picturesque landscape of silvery green olive trees, and with breathtaking views to the sea, both of The Sunrise Villas, Villa Ilios and Villa Cassiopeia, are an excellent choice for individual guests who value their privacy, but also for larger groups and families who like to holiday together whilst having their own space to go to when required.
While The Sunrise Villas feel perfectly away from it all, enjoying a serene setting tucked away on the outskirts of the pretty village of Kefalas, they are actually an easy walk (750m) from the two tavernas and mini markets on the traditional village square. Just a 10 minute drive to Ombrogialos Cove which is famed for its brilliantly clear and vivid turquoise water that is ideal for snorkelling, and the wonderful taverna on the rocks surrounding the cove. The villas are also only 15 – 20 minutes by car from the prettiest stretches of coastline, some of the best sandy beaches in Crete, and the excellent tavernas and amenities found in the villages of Almyrida to the west, or Georgioupolis to the east.
Villa Ilios is set in the middle of a leafy 2000m2 landscaped garden that is full of flowers, trees, and mature foliage including almond, fig, cypress, stone pines, sweet geraniums, African daisies, yukkas, cacti, and lantana. The lower level where you enter the property has olive trees and a frame covered in grapevines which provides shade over the dedicated parking area.
Pervading the villa and the outside terraces is a restful atmosphere that is irresistable, perhaps due in part to the mesmerising, panoramic views that reach as far as the Venetian harbour town of Rethymnon, and Mount Ida in the Psiloritis Mountains on a clear day. Both inside and out there is no shortage of space in which to unwind, with all of the rooms being bright, welcoming and with every modern amenity you could want including free, unlimited WIFI, a smart TV, a WIFI speaker, posturepedic matresses on the beds, a very well equipped kitchen, and air conditioning in all 3 of the bedrooms and the living room. A double bedroom and a shower room on the ground floor, and 2 further bedrooms and a full bathroom upstairs, provide options for families of different ages, including those with elderly or less able members.
The living room and kitchen patio doors lead directly onto a covered dining terrace, with the private pool, a 2nd dining area, a summer kitchen and barbeque area just a few steps beyond. Providing a more than eye-catching backdrop, the glittering Aegean Sea that can be seen through the trees, making poolside living at Villa Ilios particularly appealing. Many a delicious al-fresco meal made from locally grown produce can be enhanced by herbs such as basil, rosemary, thyme, and mint, freshly picked from the villa’s herbacious garden. The most favoured spot early in the morning is likely to be the upstairs front balcony/terrace which is equipped with lounging furniture, and where hypnotic sunrises can be seen.
All in all, Villa Ilios is the perfect place for either couples or families to enjoy a wonderfully relaxing holiday with good privacy, in an area which has beautiful scenery but is also a great place from which to explore the rest of the region.
